Ecology
God, like Jesus your Son—son of the soil—
Merge me into oneness with nature.
Like the lilies of the field and the birds of the air,
Free me from undue anxiety.
Make me more truly the salt of the earth,
Cherishing each part of creation.
Temper all greed when digging the earth,
Reminding us that all is sacred.
Build up my faith in times of terror;
Let me hear your “Peace, be still.”
Help me respect even the ground I tread—
In agony, a rock of support.
May I be a leaven in the midst of our world,
Diffusing appreciation and reverence.
May contentment be mine in little things—
A manger, a mustard seed, a loaf.
Make my heart grateful for the sun and the rains
Given to all out of love.
Help me keep pure the environment I enjoy;
We punish ourselves in destroying.
As the sun’s light failed at the death of Jesus,
May the earth too mo! urn my passing.
Let me wait for your promise—
A new earth, a new heaven,
And righteousness at home with all.
