The official liturgical music of Greek-speaking Orthodox Christians, Byzantine chant is a monophonic and strictly vocal musical tradition. The Greek Byzantine Choir was established in 1977 by Lykougos Angelopoulos and his associates, and both he and the choir are honored and awarded many times over. This recording takes some of the best chants from the Vespers of the Dormition of the Mother of God, feasts for the Mother of God, and other services.

Lycourgos Angelopoulos is head of the Byzantine Chorus of Greece and is considered to be an expert in Byzantine music.
