7176Df0ssYRecommended Feast of the Ascension Songs from GIA"Pentecost is the great festival that marks the birth of the Christian church by the power of the Holy Spirit. The following playlist is a sample of the collection of songs recommended by GIA for this festival Mass. The collection is specially selected to commemorate the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, fifty days after the Resurrection of Christ. God the Father's wonderful Christmas gift of His one and only Son, and Christ's Easter triumph over the power of sin, death, and the devil would be of no benefit to us if the Holy Spirit did not give us the gift of saving faith. Through the Word and Sacraments, the Holy Spirit gives us the power to believe and trust in Christ as our Savior. This precious gift of faith in the saving work of our Lord Jesus Christ is the reason Pentecost is celebrated with such joy and thanksgiving. Song List:

The incomparable Cathedral Singers, conducted by Richard Proulx, have graced the music of Bob Moore with their glorious choral singing. This recording is second to none: masterfully crafted compositions resplendent with interesting harmonies married to texts selected from the works of the finest hymn writers of our time. Lovers of serious choral music are going to be thrilled with this new offering. Musical styles are varied, from gospel to a distinctly classical sound, sprinkled with a wide variety of instruments. Selected works include "All Glory Is Yours"-rich and melodic, with a memorable and singable refrain; "Build Your City on the Hill"-rousing, with an early American flavor; "Christ Is the Day"-mysterious, for Advent; "Cleanse the Thoughts of Our Hearts"-choral music at its finest; "Before the Song Was Done"-majestic and lilting, for Christmas; "This Our Joy and This Our Feast"-Joyful, for Easter, with trumpets and alleluia! Just consider this roster of text writers: Brian Wren, Delores Dufner, OSB, Sylvia Dunstan, Richard Leach, and Timothy Dudley-Smith. In addition, traditional texts include "The Prayer of St. Patrick," a selection from Piae Cantiones, and one from The Book of Common Prayer. There are also a selection from ICEL and adaptations by Bob Moore.

2027WoSwMSCome to the Feast

It's been some time since we've heard from the composer of the beloved "Taste and See," but Come to the Feast is certainly worth the wait. A resident of Vienna, Austria, James Moore has made a special return visit to the United States to record this lively new collection. Along with favorites never before available on CD, this collection also includes new material Jim has written in the past several years. Known for simple refrains perfect for assembly singing, this collection offers "Let Us Go Rejoicing," featuring a delightful refrain in canon; "Love Endures," a wedding song with a simple congregation response; and "Praise Ye the Lord," a wonderful new hymn. "I Am Special" was written for use with children's choirs and may also be used with a combined choir of adults and children. "Alive!" is a lively song written especially for youth, while "Be Still" is a meditative tune ideal for after Communion.

2128OjRNd8One Love, One Song “One Love, One Song” crosses lines —- lots of them. Yes, it’s liturgical. Songs like “Come, Taste and See,” “Hold Us, Jesus,” and “Go Out to the World” will have your cantors, choirs, and assemblies raising their voices. Is this collection good for listening? You bet. “In Your Presence” is inspirational; “Can You See God” is convincing. Some might say there’s a good deal of originality with a slight touch of cleverness in de Silva’s text writing. The verses for “Make a Joyful Noise,” for example, are taken from the Beatitudes, the refrain draws its inspiration from Psalm 100 — a skillful combination. The music is solid, yet fresh, with a contemporary sound. The melodies are memorable; you’'ll go home humming the tunes. We’re certain this new release will cross generational lines as well. Both the young and the not so young love the fine work Chris is doing at his parish, St. Brendan’s, in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. We have a feeling your whole parish family will love Chris’'s compositions as well. These “new songs” definitely deserve a listen, and for a very good reason. There’'s a lot of “contemporary” music available these days that makes for great listening. But with de Silva there’'s a difference —- with de Silva, folks just can’'t help but sing along. This is Chris'’s first collection with GIA, and we warmly welcome him to the GIA family.
