“To live without faith, without a patrimony to defend, without a steady struggle for truth, that is not living but existing” Feast Day July 4

Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati is much loved by the young people of the world for his dynamic personality and commitment to charity in love for Jesus.  A layman who lived only to 24 years of age, his love for sports, friends and the poor make him an ideal model to propose to Australians and youth around the world.  At the funeral after his early death, hundreds of families emerged to testify to his personal commitment to them.  His embrace of social justice as a university student makes him a hero to young pilgrims.

Father, you gave to the young Pier Giorgio Frassati the

joy of meeting Christ and of living his faith in service

of the poor and the sick.  Through his intercession may we,

too, walk the path of the beatitudes and follow the example

of his generosity, spreading the spirity of the Gospel in society.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

233QxEvqcThe Unjust StewardIn a puzzling parable, Jesus praises a man who is a self-absorbed cheat. What the Lord notices in the man’s dubious behavior are three things of spiritual importance: he knows that he is in crisis; he makes an honest self-assessment; and, most importantly, he acts.word,fire,father,robert,barron,christ,sermon,sermons,podcastInspirationfatherbarron620Father Robert Barron5http://ll.mycatholicvoice.com/f/8/2902_thumb.jpg2007-11-29 15:41:42.980313
382ax57FqThe Pharisee and the PublicanThe Irish writer Iris Murdoch said that human beings are naturally self-absorbed and that what we need, consequently, are spiritual exercises that break us out of the narrow confines of our egos. Learning a foreign language can be such an exercise, as can a confrontation with real beauty. Authentic prayer--the kind exemplified in the humble petition of the Publican--also serves this purpose.word,fire,father,robert,barron,christ,sermon,sermons,podcastHomiliesfatherbarron710Father Robert Barron5http://ll.mycatholicvoice.com/f/8/2146_thumb.jpg2007-11-29 15:43:07.885622
4372eq8fEPeter Maurin and Matthew 25Peter Maurin, the co-founder of the Catholic Worker Movement, took Jesus' words in our Gospel for today with consummate seriousness. He felt that the corporal and spiritual works of mercy constituted a sort of socio-economic program. Following the exhortation of Jesus, Maurin wanted to create a society in which "it is easier for men to be good." His example is still a challenging and compelling one today.word,fire,father,robert,barron,christ,sermon,sermons,podcastHomiliesfatherbarron1230Father Robert Barron5http://ll.mycatholicvoice.com/f/8/2234_thumb.jpg2007-11-29 15:43:52.524924
465X16QqpPentecost and the Tower of BabelAll the Jews in Jerusalem for the feast of Pentecost heard the disciples preaching in their own languages. This miracle of the Spirit is the reversal of the Tower of Babel, when God scattered the nations and confused their languages. The Holy Spirit is the solution to the spiritual problem of the one and the many. In God alone can the many come together fruitfully as one.word,fire,father,robert,barron,christ,sermon,sermons,podcastInspirationfatherbarron520Father Robert Barron5http://ll.mycatholicvoice.com/f/8/2616_thumb.jpg2007-11-29 15:44:28.948919
