World Youth Day (WYD) is the largest youth event in the world and will be held in Sydney from Tuesday 15 to Sunday 20 July 2008.

Organised by the Catholic Church, WYD brings together young people from around the globe to celebrate and learn about their faith on a more regular basis.

WYD08 will be the largest event Australia has ever hosted. It will attract over 125,000 international visitors - more than the 2000 Olympics.

WYD08 will mark the first visit of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to Australia.

Through the WYD08 experience, young people from throughout the world will make a pilgrimage in faith, meet, and experience the love of God.

World Youth Day is an invitation from the Pope to the youth of the world to celebrate their faith around a particular theme. Everyone is welcome to attend.

396wpSAMLLight of the World; Salt of the EarthThe purpose of the Church is essentially extraverted. It exists for the sake of sanctifying the world. Thus Jesus tells his followers to be light for the world--that which illumines and clarifies the deepest truth of things--and salt for the earth--that which preserves, spices up and frees what is best in creation. We are most fully ourselves when we are a beacon for everyone else.word,fire,father,robert,barron,christ,sermon,sermons,podcastInspirationfatherbarron820Father Robert Barron5http://ll.mycatholicvoice.com/f/8/2632_thumb.jpg2007-11-29 15:43:23.916505
382ax57FqThe Pharisee and the PublicanThe Irish writer Iris Murdoch said that human beings are naturally self-absorbed and that what we need, consequently, are spiritual exercises that break us out of the narrow confines of our egos. Learning a foreign language can be such an exercise, as can a confrontation with real beauty. Authentic prayer--the kind exemplified in the humble petition of the Publican--also serves this purpose.word,fire,father,robert,barron,christ,sermon,sermons,podcastHomiliesfatherbarron710Father Robert Barron5http://ll.mycatholicvoice.com/f/8/2146_thumb.jpg2007-11-29 15:43:07.885622
4372eq8fEPeter Maurin and Matthew 25Peter Maurin, the co-founder of the Catholic Worker Movement, took Jesus' words in our Gospel for today with consummate seriousness. He felt that the corporal and spiritual works of mercy constituted a sort of socio-economic program. Following the exhortation of Jesus, Maurin wanted to create a society in which "it is easier for men to be good." His example is still a challenging and compelling one today.word,fire,father,robert,barron,christ,sermon,sermons,podcastHomiliesfatherbarron1230Father Robert Barron5http://ll.mycatholicvoice.com/f/8/2234_thumb.jpg2007-11-29 15:43:52.524924
381JKOusYWill the Son of Man Find Faith on the Earth? Our Gospel for this week ends with one of the most haunting lines in the New Testament. Jesus says, "when the Son of man returns, will he find faith on the earth?" The Christian faith has faded away, even in lands where it was once vibrant: Egypt, Turkey, North Africa, etc. Will it endure in Western Europe, in our country? The cultivation of the faith is obviously God's work first, but it is also ours. What are we doing to make sure that the Christian Gospel is successfully passed on to the next generation?word,fire,father,robert,barron,christ,sermon,sermons,podcastHomiliesfatherbarron710Father Robert Barron5http://ll.mycatholicvoice.com/f/8/2043_thumb.jpg2007-11-29 15:43:06.451952
